Sri Lanka's First Isotonic Drink
Since 2008
Gower Street Holdings (Pvt) Ltd (GSH) is the Sri Lankan company that pioneered Sri Lankan Isotonic Drinks in this country with its brand SL Sport. The origins of GSH go back to 2008 when the company signed an agreement with the Industrial Technology Institute (ITI) – formerly known as CISIR – to design and develop an Isotonic Drink. Over the next several months, following research and trials, a pilot factory was set up and trials commenced – this was the birth of the first Isotonic drink designed and developed in Sri Lanka, by Sri Lankans, for Sri Lankans.
When SL Sport launched its first product in 2010, the Sports Drink market in Sri Lanka was non-existent. As the pioneering Isotonic drink manufacturer in the country, GSH introduced its first product, Isotonic Lime Blast (now known as Isotonic Lime Drink), under the brand name SL Sport. In 2010, the product received a Presidential Award from President Mahinda Rajapakse at the National Science & Technology Awards 2010.
Supermarket chains began purchasing the product in 2010, and by the end of 2011, all major supermarkets were carrying the product. Over the years, SL Sport has added different flavors of Isotonic Drinks; the complete range now consists of Lime, Orange, Pomegranate, Passion Fruit and Ginger.
